      Marvin William "Pete" Bursch was born in 1913 in Wood Lake, Minnesota. He grew up and graduated from high school in Alexandria and attended St. Olaf College. Prior to World War II, Pete was employed by Montgomery Ward's stores in a variety of cities in Minnesota and South Dakota. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant.
      In 1947 Pete married Audrey Johnson of Fergus Falls and they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Pete was sales manager for a wholesale appliance company. In 1956 the Bursch family moved back to Alexandria to operate the Bus Depot care. That enterprise eventually evolved into Bursch Travel Agency. Pete and Audrey traveled throughout the world with many fiends, old ad new.
      Pete was very active in civic affairs. He was Post commander of the Alexandria American Legion, past president and Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis Club, served on the Alexandria School Board and was elected to the Minnesota state senate. He was a founding member of Theatre L'Homme Dieu and served on its board for 30 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
      Pete was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters, his son-in-law, Walter Eysselinck and his wife Audrey. He is survived by his four children: Barbara Bursch Eysselinck of Miltona, Fred of Alexandria, Charles of Iowa City, Iowa and Mary Bursch Celli of St. Petersburg, Florida. Pete has seven grandchildren.
      The last year of his life Pete lived at Knute Nelson home where he passed away on May 1, 2000, with his children at his side.
      A funeral service was held on May 4, 2000 at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery with Jack Converse, Don Krueger, Bill Bursch, Darrell Klimek, Larry Pearson and Ben Eysselinck serving as pallbearers. Taps was by Dewey Possehl. Arrangement with Anderson Funeral Home.
