Rolyn Erling "Sam" Samuelson, 77, of Elbow Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at his home.
Rolyn Erling Samuelson was born on July, 19, 1931, in Clinton, to Samuel and Emma Samuelson Tuller. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Clinton High School.
After high school, Rolyn attended South Dakota State University at Brookings before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, serving from Oct. 14, 1950, to Oct. 13, 1954, during the Korean War.
After his discharge, he attended the University of Minnesota at St. Paul and obtained a degree in agricultural education. Rolyn was employed by the Production Credit Association in Blooming Prairie.
On May 4, 1963, Rolyn married Doris Hanson. He was employed as an Associate Extension Agent with Dodge County and then in Rochester in Olmsted County.
In September of 1965, he moved his family to Elbow Lake, where he worked as the Grant County Agriculture Extension Director for the University of Minnesota, until his retirement in November of 1986.
After his retirement he enjoyed volunteering in various capacities, as well working in agriculture, helping out area farmers. He and Doris enjoyed traveling and spending time in Arizona, attending reunions, and gatherings with family and friends.
He enjoyed people but mostly enjoyed his family and grandchildren. Rolyn was a member of the United Lutheran Church, where he had served on various committees. Throughout his life, he belonged to numerous civic and charitable organizations.
Rolyn was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Darwood Sellin and Kasper Hanson, and sister-in-law and Evelyn Hanson.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Elbow Lake; five daughters, Kathleen Samuelson of Billings, Mont., Carol Samuelson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Sandra (Peter) Roverud, Caleb, Ethan and Gabriel of Lakeville, Karen (Jason) Isgrig, Joshua, Ashley, Jesse and Tyler of Fargo, and Amy (Todd) Haigh, Noah, Samuel and Summer of Otsego; one sister, Janis Sellin of Ortonville; and two brothers, David (Carol) Samuelson of Little Falls, and Jim (Glendra) Tuller of Falls River Mills, Calif.
Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:45 p.m., at the church, and one hour prior to the service on Monday
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, at United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake
