Alice Olson (February 18, 1928 - October 15, 2011)
Alice Olson, age 83, of Lake Mills, died Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa. Many of her family members including all of her grandchildren were with her throughout the day.
Alice Olson was born on February 18, 1928, to John and Hattie (Bakke) Thompson on their farm near Vinje. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church of Vinje. Alice attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she received a teaching certificate. Later, she earned a BA at Mankato State University.
A school teacher for thirty-five years, Alice taught in country schools as well as in Scarville and in Thompson, Iowa. After retiring from teaching, she worked part-time at the Lake Mills Care Center.
Alice married Paul Olson on July 27, 1951. The couple lived and farmed near Scarville where they resided until Paul's death in 1986. She then moved to Lake Mills and lived on Milton Ave. until she entered the Lake Mills Care Center in December 2004.
Alice loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. She looked forward to the daily meals at the Senior Citizen Center, and she loved to travel. Her travels with family included a trip to Norway in 2002 as well as trips to Texas, Florida, Arizona, and other destinations. Active in her church, Alice taught Sunday School classes and served as Superintendent. In her younger years, she enjoyed puppetry, horse back riding, country music, playing guitar, and yodeling.
Survivors include her four children: Keith Olson, of Conroe, Texas, Kevin (Kathleen) Olson, of Lake Mills; Karl Olson, of Los Angeles, California, and Kim (Clarice) Olson, of Woodbury, Minnesota; eight grandchildren: Josiah Olson, of Morris, Minnesota, Sarah Mugge (Taylor), of Central City, Nebraska, Hannah Olson, of Orange City, Iowa; Matthew, Tyler, Luke, Benjamin, and Elza Olson, of Woodbury, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; her sisters: Burnette (Walter) Tveit, Hilda (Melvin) Bendickson; and her brothers: Alfred (Mildred), Clarence (Lisa), Helmer (Marjaleen), Irving (Ardene), Martin (Frances), Marvin, and Melvin. Blessed be the memory of Alice Olson.

Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church is located 2 ½ miles south of Joice on county hardtop S 14. Rev. Brent Walker of Blue Earth, Minnesota, will officiate. Burial will be at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Vinje, Iowa, following a luncheon fellowship at Joice.
