Daniel Abrahamson, 61, Minot, ND, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011, in a Minot hospital.

Daniel "Abe" Duane Abrahamson was born June 6, 1950, a son of Willie E. and Marjorie (Deegan) Abrahamson, in Devils Lake, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, North Dakota and graduated from Minot High School in 1969.

Dan enlisted in the United States Navy August 26, 1970. He proudly served his country and was stationed in Rota, Spain, as a crash crew firefighter during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged May 29, 1974.

Dan married Pamela S. Davick January 8, 1972, at the Rock of Gibraltar, a British Colony. After returning from his four-year Naval tour, they made their home in Minot, North Dakota where they raised their two children, David and Jeff. Dan continued his profession as firefighter at the Minot Air Force Base, retiring in 2001 after a total of 30 years of service. In addition, Dan was employed by Gaffaney's of Minot Inc. for over 40 years, proudly following in his father's footsteps as an office equipment technician.

He was a man of few words so those he spoke were genuine. He believed actions spoke louder than words. Dan definitely had a "Getty up and go attitude". Quick witted, he loved to tease, laugh and joke when appropriate; to his credit he could easily take as much of it, if not more than he ever dished out. The well-being of his family and friends remained at the top of the priority list. He was always ready and willing to step up and assist anyone in need.

He eagerly advanced his professional skills, taking a genuine interest in those he was serving. He was a great mentor for all the firefighters he worked with. He was awarded the medal of valor for his involvement in the B-52 incident at MAFB, November 14th, 1975. He also received the National Defense Service Medal just before the end of his tour in Rota, Spain. Dan was a strong-willed, levelheaded, intuitive and brave man.

He enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings, UND Fighting Sioux and the Minnesota Vikings. He relished his time together with friends and family hunting and fishing, whether it be rain or shine, cold or hot with a crew or just out alone.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot, a former member of the American Legion, Eagles Aerie, VFW Club Post # 753 and a long time member of the Minot Hockey Boosters.

His loving family includes: wife of 39 years, Pam, Minot; sons, David (Stephanie) Abrahamson, Minot, and Jeff Abrahamson, Minot; grandchildren, Carson and Jersey Abrahamson; mother-in-law, Marlys Davick, Long Lake, ND; brothers, Rick Deegan, Paynesville, MN, and Doug Abrahamson, Minot; sisters, Penny (Robert) Fenner, Houston, TX, Diane Abrahamson, Minot, Sandra (Timothy) Brooks, Cedar, MN, Darla Abrahamson, Minot, brothers-in-law, Kerry (Barb) Davick, Spokane, WA, Keith (Kym) Davick, Highlands Ranch CO, Kent (Mary Ellen) Davick, Oklahoma City, OK, Keven (Cassandra) Davick, Great Falls, MT; nieces and nephews, Eric Abrahamson, Dylan and Weston Abrahamson, Kerry, Patrick, and Angie Deegan, Robbie and Kelly Fenner, Lisa Wicklund, Laurie Brooks, Troy Davick, Teresa Summers, Ashley Davick, Catelyn Davick, Daisha Ballard, Darin Davick, and Denise Davick; as well as numerous cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie, and father, Willie; father-in-law, Donovan Davick; paternal grandparents, Charles and Anna Abrahamson; and maternal grandparents, Arthur and Margeret Longie.

Funeral: Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
