      Leroy Olson was born on July 11, 1927 to George and Helen (Bjondal) Olson at Wesley Hospital in Wadena, MN.

      Leroy and Ruby Moench were united in marriage on August 13, 1948 in Battle Lake. He lived his entire life in the Wadena area and worked as a telephone lineman along with farming. His interests were in collecting gas engines, guns, coins and various pieces of farm equipment.

      Leroy died on August 21, 2011 at Cuyuna Regional Medical Care Center in Crosby, at the age of 84 years.

      He was preceded in death by his wife on March 6, 2008; his parents; brothers Don, Lester, and Kenneth; and sister Lorrayne. Survivors include his sons Randy (Penny) of Backus, Wayne (Pat) of Moose Lake, and Keven of West Fargo; daughter Kelle (Gary) Loiland of Brainerd; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and brother Dale (Pat) of Prior Lake.

      Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Marilyn Breckenridge officiating. Honorary pallbearer was Jess Hackler. Pallbearers were Brandon Olson, Justin Olson, Kyle Moench, Todd Moench, John Aho, and Jim Wegscheid. Burial was in Leaf River Cemetery near Wadena.
