Janet Anne Makousky Liset, 96, peacefully passed on Oct. 14, 2018 in Hopkins surrounded by family & friends in her last days. Born August 14, 1922, in the 2nd floor bedroom of her Grandma Makousky’s house near Baker Rd., Janet was a loving daughter, devoted wife, dedicated mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend to many. Janet was in the U.S. Coast Guard (WR) SPARS in WWII, stationed in Manhattan, New York. She attended Mpls. Business College and worked at 1st Nat’l Bank, Country Club market and retired from MTS. She was an avid bridge player and played for decades with seven other fanatic players. She also loved cribbage, traveling and her beloved extended family that so enriched her life.
She was a charter member of IHM. She & Bob went through grades 1-12 together. They were the 2nd couple married in the Quonset hut (November 1947). When they danced together, people would form a circle around them in appreciative awe.
Janet was a 64 year survivor of breast cancer! The disease appeared when she was 32 and pregnant with her 4th child, who was delivered by c-section at 7 months. She then underwent radical surgery and was sent home to care for 3 children under 6 (14 months apart) and a newborn infant. There was no chemotherapy back then, but she received powerful radiation. It was taboo to even talk about this disease then, much less find support groups, etc. Thus, she was forged into the Strong Women Society.
True to form, she has had this funeral planned in minute detail for many years, documenting NO EULOGY multiple times. She recently said she was ready to “tap dance” into heaven. She was spiritually, emotionally and physically ready for this journey.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, Benjamin and Mary (Kittock) Makousky, and her sister, Frances Aubrecht. She is survived by daughters Mary Anne Wilson (Mike Driscoll), Kathleen (Shane) White, sons, Mark (Karen) and David (Harvey) Hastings, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 23, at 11AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary,13505 Excelsior Blvd in Mntka, visitation one hr before. Burial at Ft. Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to: Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation 1 877 GO KOMEN.
