Elling Kildal 1862-1953
Funeral services were held at Landstad Lutheran Church of Shevlin on Tuesday, December 15, for Elling Kildal, a pioneer resident of Clearwater County. Rev. Eggen officiated and the Cease Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Pete Traaseth, Alf Eldevik, Helmer Strandlien, Anton Strandlien, Gust Blomdahl and Art Lugger.
Mr. Kildal died at the memorial hospital on Thursday afternoon, December 10. He had been making his home at the Good Samaritan Home at Clearbrook since May, 1952. He had been in failing health for a long time and his condition became critical on Wednesday night. Death came very suddenly, caused by an internal hemorrhage.
Elling Kildal was born in Oslo, Norway on January 20, 1862. He came to the United States in 1887 and was employed at a farm at Northwood, North Dakota. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Anna Eldevik. They lived at Rindal in Norman County for five years, and then moved to Clearwater County on a farm where he lived until about five years ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died eleven years ago, and two children who died in infancy. Left to mourn his passing are three sons and two daughters, Hans of Fosston, Mrs. Elias Strandlien (Clara) of Gary, Alfred, Edwin and Mrs. William Blomdal (Alma); thirteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
