Son of Samuel and Sophia Ripley Hawley. Married March 12, 1835 to Rebecca Adams; children, Benjamin, John, Sophia, Elizabeth, James, Samuel, Rebecca, Martha, William, & David. They lived in Long bottom which is in the upper reaches of the Forked Run. William Hawley owned considerable land, was a farmer and journeyman carpenter, and was Justice of the Peace in Olive Twp., Wayne Co. for many years.
Meigs County records report cause of death was officially "old age".

William Hawley died Sunday morning, January 12. He was one of the old citizens of Olive, was Justice of the Peace for many years and held various township offices, as trustee and treasurer. He was a member of the Christian Church for many years. [originally Disciples of Christ Church, Long Bottom] J.[James] R.[Ripley] Hawley, ex-infirmary director, was one of his sons.
