Kenneth Duane Lillehaug, 87, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Lemmon SD, with Pastor Carin Bear officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held in the Prince of Peace Cemetery northeast of Lemmon, SD.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a family service at 7:00 p.m. all on Friday, 15, 2018 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.

Ken was born in Adams County, ND on the family farm on April 28, 1931 to John and Leona Lillehaug. He spent his childhood years attending school at Cedar Creek School and South Fork School. After the family home blew over in a tornado the family moved to North Lemmon where he finished his education at North Lemmon School.

Ken was drafted into the army during the Korean War. He was shipped out on a ten-day trip to Germany. His units' maneuvers included evacuating civilians from cities and destroying area bridges. After spending about two years in the service he was discharged in 1954.

On January 8, 1955 Ken was united in marriage to Evangeline Stugelmeyer. They made their home in North Lemmon raising their three children. Ken worked various jobs in Lemmon, however he spent most of his working days at Wheeler's Manufacturing and later with his brother at Lemmon Propane.

In January 1981 Ken and Vangie moved to Lodi, CA. They enjoyed being with relatives and friends from the Dakota area and also exploring the state on many road trips. Ken worked in the maintenance department at the Lodi Hospital until moving back to Lemmon in 1993. During the years in California Ken's heart disease was discovered. He had quadrupl by-pass surgery in 1992 and managed good health for 18 years until the disease further damaged areas of his heart. After a couple years of medical complications he received treatment that made the past six years enjoyable and relatively active again. Ken took great pride in being the caretaker of the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon for many years.

Family meant everything to Ken and he often enjoyed family reunions and attending activities of his grandchildren. Their home was always bustling with activity, especially while their grandchildren were attending school and they enjoyed every minute of it. They also enjoyed their yard and Ken was often busy with projects of all kinds in his shop. The past two years Ken and Vangie have lived in the Hud apartment within visiting distance of many of their close friends. He was an active member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post #66, and led the parades in the honor guard for many years.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 63 years, Vangie; son, Kenneth D.(Vikki) Lillehaug, Jr.; daughters, Sharon (Dan) Anderson and Sheila (Don) Klein. Seven grandchildren; Danci (Bryce) Baker; Danika (Kevin) Schmidt; Dantae Anderson; Danessa Anderson; Sterling (Carrie) Klein; Shayla Klein, and Shelby Klein; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rollo (Ethel), Donald (Ollie) and Arlendo (Lotus) and also his 16-year-old brother Clayton; one sister, Rosella Fossen.
