      Arlendo "Casey" Lillehaug
      February 28, 1927 - June 8, 2016
Arlendo “Casey” Lillehaug, 89 of Spearfish died June 8, 2016 at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital.

Casey was born to John and Leona Inez (Bridge) Lillehaug on February 28, 1927 in Adams County, Township of South Fork, North Dakota on a homestead near the Cedar Creek. He attended schools for the first five years at Cedar Butte and sixth through eighth at South Fork. Tales were often told about driving a team and wagon to school, picking up the neighbors as they went. They would heat up rocks at home and school to keep them warm on the ride in the cold weather, lunch buckets were often filled with lard sandwiches. Arlendo was baptized and confirmed in the Lemmon Lutheran Church. While growing up in the dust bowl of the thirties made school secondary compared to working so Arlendo picked many jobs on farms and ranches.

Casey met the love of his life, Lotus Ellingson and they were married on June 7, 1948. They moved to Lead, SD in 1949 where he worked underground at the Homestake Mine. This is where he earned his nickname “Casey Jones” driving the locomotive! In 1954, they transferred to Savoy in Spearfish Canyon and worked for Homestake Hydro Electric, where dad maintained the hydro dams and pipelines, producing electricity for Homestake Mine and Sawmill retiring in 1989.

Casey built a log lathe to peel logs and built a beautiful dream log home where they spent the next 20 years! He was instrumental in starting the Spearfish Canyon Fire Department, leadership with Spearfish Canyon Homeowners Association, a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for 67 years, the Lawrence County Search and Rescue, the Moose Lodge and was a Cub Scout Leader.

Our Dad loved to build, weld, fix, repair invent and tinker with projects. There was no building too big for him to not try to move and he always had a helping hand to give!

Casey is survived by his children, John (Dee) Lillehaug, McCall, ID, Gary Lillehaug, Spearfish Canyon, Dianne(Cris) Miller, Spearfish, Lisa (Doug) Kiefert, Spearfish; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren with two more soon!; brother, Ken (Vange) Lillehaug, Lemmon and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lotus; parents, John and Leona; brothers, Donald, Rollo and Clayton and sister, Rosella Fossen.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lead. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the church and Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Arrangements are under the care of Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel.
